TELL US HOW YOU REALLY FEEL

We've been receiving a lot of kind words about our current musical, Jason Robert Brown's The Last Five Years, and we cannot express enough how much we appreciate the engagement with our audience and community. The following review is from gracious audience member and friend of Out of Box Theatre, Pat Hurley.

"The American Musical takes many forms, from grand large-cast productions to intimate, two-person stories, and Jason Robert Brown's The Last Five Years, playing through this weekend at Out of Box Theatre, is one of the most beautiful and intensely bittersweet examples of this latter genre.

The complicated relationship of Cathy and Jamie is played out on two timelines and is expertly acted and gorgeously sung by Lauren Rosenzweig and Stephen DeVillers. Lauren and Stephen bonded as part of the cast of Out of Box's earlier production of Sondheim's Company, and they've had the good fortune of teaming up with another fellow Company member, Annie Cook, as Music Director.

Annie has a special gift for finding just the right few instruments to augment her extraordinary keyboard talents in any production, in this case simply a violin and cello. To hear Annie play a show, conducting from her keyboard with energy, verve, and lyric beauty, is to experience a musical with fresh insights. The audience shares in her exuberance and love of music, and the actors naturally step up their game in her presence.

Out of Box Theatre, under the imaginative leadership of Artistic Director Carolyn Sheppard Choe, continues to create unique theatrical experiences in an intimate setting. Check out their ambitious season.

And this weekend, come a half hour early to the show and treat yourself to Annie and her ensemble as they perform a classical preshow mini-concert."
